"The Hand of Peace" @ 2003

I carved this hand from redwood I found on a local beach. The incredible grains and fire-darkened hue mark this as a remnant of logging many
years ago.The hand has a distinctly Buddhist feel to me. I carved and painted a lotus blossom to serve as the base in order to further the peaceful theme. The base is a good example of when I have allowed an idea rather than the raw material, to dictate a sculpture's form.
