I
found a swan hiding in a redwood stump when I was a freshman in college,
and I fell in love. Carving and polishing wood has become my passion: it
taunts and
delights me. Discovering forms in wood makes me feel alive, and sometimes,
it helps me to feel successful as a human being. My style is as heavily influenced
by National Geographic Magazine as it is by
the 20th century masters I studied at university. My best work takes as much
of its shape from the wood I carve as it does from my imagination.
